Troy, MI—Dough Masters Inc., in cooperation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), voluntarily recalled Oatmeal Raisin Cookies and Chocolate Chunk Cookies due to allergen hazards associated with them. The recall was announced on Friday, September 17, 2010, after it was discovered that walnuts were not included in the product’s ingredient list.
According to information provided, all lots of Oatmeal Raisin Cookies and Chocolate Chunk Cookies are affected by the food safety recall.
The recall was issued as a means of preventing consumers who are allergic to walnuts from suffering a severe or even potentially lethal allergic reaction.
Michigan-based Dough Masters Inc. has not received any reports of illnesses in connection with the recalled cookies. The product was made available for purchase at 7-eleven retail stores in Michigan and Ohio.
The cookies were sold in a 3-ounce, clear plastic package. The product was labeled as a “7-eleven Fresh to Go” product and could also be purchased in bulk.
The company’s press release explained, “The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the walnut containing product was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of walnuts… Subsequent investigation of this problem was found that the formulation of a different cookie was sent containing the walnuts. These products have been suspended until the US Food and Drug Administration and the company is certain that the problem has been resolved.”
Consumers are advised to return the recalled Oatmeal Raisin Cookies and Chocolate Chunk Cookies to the place of purchase to obtain a full reimbursement.
