Grand Rapids, MI—Meijer, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), voluntarily recalled Falls Creek infant boy shoes due to choking hazards associated with them. The CPSC announced the product safety recall, which affects approximately 2,300 pairs of shoes, on Wednesday, October 27, 2010.
While no injuries have been reported in connection with the recalled Falls Creek infant boy shoes, the Michigan-based importer recalled the product upon discovering that the shoelace toggles can detach. The defect can pose choking risks to young children using the shoes.
According to the CPSC news release, “This recall involves Meijer Falls Creek infant boy casual shoes with bungee laces and toggles. The brown leather shoes were sold in infant sizes 5 to 10 and have “Falls Creek” imprinted on the bottom of the shoe.”
The potentially dangerous shoes were made available for purchase at Meijer stores nationwide between July 2010 and September 2010. The product’s value was listed at about $15.
Consumers have been urged to confiscate the risky shoes from tots and remove the toggles, which will eliminate the hazard completely, or return the shoes to any Meijer store to receive a full reimbursement.
Consumers with questions are advised to contact Meijer at (800) 927-8699 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or via the Internet at www.meijer.com.
