Ionia, MI—Living Foods, Inc., in cooperation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), voluntarily recalled bulk and retail-size packages of Alfalfa Sprouts due to the potential for Salmonella contamination. According to the FDA’s September 7, 2010 news release, Salmonella is particularly dangerous in young kids, elderly people and individuals with weakened immune systems.
Living Foods, Inc. issued the food safety recall after a single package of Living Foods, Inc. Alfalfa Sprouts tested positive for Salmonella spp.

According to the news release, “Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
