Lancaster, PA– The vice president of an Ephrata roofing company was tragically killed when a roof collapsed at the Hill School in Pottstown after 11 a.m. One other worker was trapped in the rubble, which took emergency crews over an hour to dig him out, as reported by Philly.com.
Kevin J. Sensenig, vice president of R.L. Sensenig Co., went onto the roof without a safety harness to show his three employees what he wanted done. The roof suddenly collapsed, causing Sensenig to plummet over 50 feet to the hard concrete floor below. The Montgomery County Coroner Walter I. Hofman said Sensenig died almost instantly.
Responding rescue crews worked for over an hour to dig another worker from underneath the rubble. The worker’s injuries are considered to be non-life-threatening. His condition and identity is currently being withheld.
The workers were doing routine maintenance when the accident occurred.
It is unknown what caused the 6-foot-by-9-foot-path portion of the roof to collapse.
Officials with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are investigating the construction accident.
