Riverside, CA—An intentional head-on crash, involving a school bus, left five people with minor injuries on Wednesday, Oct. 20. The motor vehicle collision (MVC) occurred on State Route 60 in Pedley at around 10:45 p.m., as reported by USA Today MyFoxLA.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office reported a 44-year-old man drove his vehicle the wrong-way on an off-ramp to State Route 60. While traveling in the wrong direction, the man intentionally slammed head-on into a school bus, which was carrying seven students at the time.
The man was reportedly seen trying to climb a fence on an overpass of the freeway prior to the wreck. He failed at the attempt and got back into his vehicle and crashed into the bus.
One student on the bus, Ignacio Flores Jr., 17, stated he exited the bus from an emergency exit after the wreck. Flores then saw the man who rammed the bus and saw him “writing in pain.” Flores thought to himself, “’Should I help him?’ and I’m like ‘No forget it, he rammed me.’”
Both drivers and three students were reported treated for minor injuries.
Police are looking into the accident as a failed suicide attempt.
A full investigation is underway.
