Secaucus, NJ—The Children’s Place Services Company, LLC, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission voluntarily recalled approximately 3,300 white ruffle outdoor vests due to choking hazards they pose to children wearing them. The CPSC announced the product safety recall on Friday, October 29, 2010.
While no injuries have been reported in connection with the hazardous attire, the company recalled the vests upon discovering that the metal snaps can detach. This defect can leave youngsters at risk of asphyxiation.
According to the CPSC news release, “The girls’ ruffle vests are quilted and “chalk” colored with a hood trimmed in fake fur. The vests have a label sewn to the inside side seam of the lining with number #587754 printed on it.”
The recalled girls’ vests were sold via the Internet at www.childrensplace.com and were available for purchase in September 2010. The product was valued at about $20.
Consumers have been urged to cease use of the garment to protect children from potential choking hazards. The company is expected to mail a postage-paid envelope to all consumers who purchased the vests online. The envelope will include instructions on how to return the vests for a full reimbursement.
Consumers with additional questions or concerns are advised to contact The Children’s Place Services Company, LLC at (877) 752-2387 Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET or on the company’s Web site at www.childrensplace.com.
