Columbia, MO—A hit-and-run driver’s car was involved in a three-vehicle crash, just moments after he fled the scene of the first accident. While a total of seven people were involved in the second collision, only two of the victims were hospitalized after the Tuesday night, Nov. 9, 2010 wreck, a Columbia Missourian report explained.
According to information provided, a blue Chrysler Sebring slammed into a red pickup truck at the junction of Garth and Sexton streets. The driver of the Sebring subsequently sped away, as the driver of the pickup followed him in an attempt to collect the motorist’s insurance information.
Columbia Police Officer Todd Rowland said the driver of the Sebring failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of McBaine Avenue and Worley Street.
The pickup truck was still following the Sebring when it ran the stop sign and broadsided a black Dodge Dakota. The Sebring then careened into a plumbing truck that was stopped at the intersection.
Emergency medical services (EMS) personnel reportedly transported the driver of the Sebring to University Hospital. The extent of the motorist’s injuries was not immediately known.
A passenger in the Dakota also suffered injuries and was rushed to Columbia Regional Hospital for treatment. No one else sustained any injured in the multiple-vehicle collision.
Investigations are expected to be underway.
