WA School Bus Collision on Key Peninsula Highway Injured 6 Kids, 3 Adults

Tacoma, WA—A three-vehicle crash on the Key Peninsula Highway, which involved a school bus loaded with kids, injured three adults and six children. The automobile collision occurred around 11:25 a.m., in the 11100 block of Key Peninsula Highway North on Thursday, November 18, 2010, as reported by The News Tribune.

According to police officials, a northbound pickup truck slammed into the back of a school bus, which was transporting 34 students home from Key Peninsula Middle School, when it slowed down for a car at the end of a driveway. The impact of the collision caused the truck to spin into oncoming traffic, where it hit a southbound Ford van head-on.

The male driver of the truck, the female driver of the van and the female school bus driver were transported to St. Anthony Hospital for treatment of their injuries acquired in the accident. Six students on the bus were also taken to St. Anthony for a medical evaluation. Everyone is expected to be ok.

Key Peninsula and Gig Harbor firefighters and Pierce County sheriff’s deputies responded to the wreck.

The driver of the truck will be cited for driving with a suspended license, driving without vehicle insurance and failure to wear a seat belt.

Investigations are underway.
