San Diego, CA—The driver of a 1995-2000 model year Gold Honda Civic who allegedly caused a fatal accident, which left five people dead on Saturday, November 13, 2010, is being sought by police. The fatal automobile crash occurred on a two-lane highway in El Centro, Imperial County, just east of San Diego, reported CNN.
The California Highway Patrol reported that the gold Honda Civic attempted to pass a group of motorcyclists, 12 bikers in all, when the driver crossed into the oncoming lane. The Honda cleared the bikers, but an oncoming Dodge Avenger swerved to miss the Honda, and instead slammed into the motorcyclists head-on.
Four of the bikers and a passenger in Dodge tragically died at the scene of the wreck.
The driver of the Honda sped off from the scene.
Six people were also injured in the collision. Five of those injured were considered to be in serious condition.
The group of motorcyclists were apart of the Saddle Tramps Motorcycle group in Lakeside, California. They were reportedly on a ride to celebrate the group’s 10th anniversary.
The driver of the Dodge was detained by police officers on suspicion of drunk driving, but officials are not holding him responsible for the accident.
