Minneapolis, MN– Firefighters rushed to the scene of a 2 alarm duplex fire and transported three people to the hospital on Tuesday morning, November 16, 2010. A duplex at 2204-2006 Garfield Avenue South caught fire just after 6 a.m., as reported by Kare11.
Officials reported that six people were inside the duplex when it caught fire. Three people were transported to an area hospital for treatment of injuries acquired in the blaze, including one man, who sustained cuts and burns from breaking windows to help other residents get out of the burning building. The two other victims were reportedly females who suffered smoke inhalation.
The fire was apparently so intense that the flames caused the roof and porch to collapse.
Jenni Boushey, who lives in the duplex, was grateful and happy despite losing her home, due to a firefighter’s courage to reenter the building to save some of her stuff. “I just went up to the firefighters there and asked them if they could just grab one thing for me and they pulled half of my room out so I’m pretty happy right now…as happy as I possible could be that’s for sure.”
One pet reportedly did not survive the fire. The building was deemed a total loss and is expected to demolished.
The cause of the fire is unknown. Investigations are underway.
