Woodinville, WA—Full Speed Ahead and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) have voluntarily recalled about 9,300 Full Speed Ahead BB30 Gossamer crank sets, which have been installed on numerous bicycle makers. The CPSC recalled the crank sets on November 19, 2010, over crash hazards the product poses.

The recall was initiated after discovering that if the fixing bolt is over-tightened on the non-drive crank arm, the bolt shoulder can crack or brake. This can cause the non-drive arm to fall off and cause the rider to crash and suffer injuries.

The CPSC reported, “A crank set is the component of the bicycle that the chain and pedals attach to for pedaling. The recalled models are either painted black with ‘Gossamer’ printed in white on the arm or white with ‘Gossamer’ printed in black on the arm. There are two drive gears (referred to as ‘double’) on the crank set. Gossamer BB30 non-drive crank arms that are included in the recall have serial numbers beginning with 10B, 10C, and 10D. Serial numbers are located on the backside of the crank arm by pedal threads. The recalled crank arms were assembled as original equipment on the following bicycle models:
