Charleston County SC Head-On Crash: Dog Killed, 5 Others Injured in Hwy 17 Wreck

Charleston County, SC—A head-on collision near Adams Run Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010, resulted in the death of a dog and left five people with various injuries. The violent motor vehicle accident occurred on U.S. Highway 17, otherwise known as the Coastal Highway, around 7:20 p.m., as reported by the Post and Courier.

According to Maj. John Clark of the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, a man was operating a Land Rover in the northbound lanes of Highway 17 when the vehicle careened over the grassy median and into oncoming traffic.

Upon doing so, the Land Rover smashed head-on into a Hyundai. Four unidentified people were riding in the Hyundai at the time, while a dog appeared to be the only other passenger in the Land Rover. The dog suffered fatal injuries in the wreck.

Charleston County EMS rushed to the scene, located between Parkers Ferry Road and S.C. Highway 174, to aid those injured in the head-on collision.

Reports indicated one Hyundai passenger was airlifted to Medical University Hospital to be treated for serious injuries.

The remaining four injured victims were seemingly taken to Medical University Hospital via ambulance. The extent of their injuries was not immediately known.

A full investigation into the Charleston County two-vehicle crash was expected to be underway.
