Fairland, OK—Three out-of-town workers are recovering from injuries they sustained in an explosion at a Fairland mill on Wednesday, December 1, 2010. Grain dust reportedly caused the explosion at the Simmons Feed Mill, as reported by Tulsa World.
The three Missouri workers, identified as Spike Bequette and John Rosenbohm, both of Anderson, Mo., and Chad Slinkard of Jane, Mo., were reportedly using cutting torches to cut grain bins below ground level, when the grain dust suddenly exploded.
The workers managed to climb out of the pit through a manhole following the blast.
Responding emergency rescue crews rushed the Mid-America Repair Service workers to Hillcrest Medical Center for treatment. All three workers were burned, and no one had any lung damage.
The workers are expected to be released from the hospital this weekend.
It was not reported whether the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will be investigating the work-related accident.
