Fairfield Township, OH—Elevated carbon monoxide levels caused one Fairfield Township Target employee to pass out and three others to become ill. Emergency crews were called to the Target store at Bridgewater Falls on Thursday, December 2, 2010 at around 7:39 a.m., as reported by WCPO.
Target store officials reported that a worker had been using a propane powered floor buffer for several hours inside the store, causing the worker to pass out. The worker, who remains unidentified, was rushed by EMS crews to Mercy Hospital Fairfield for treatment.
Three other workers who complained of headaches and trouble breathing were also taken to the hospital for medical treatment. All the victims reportedly sustained non life-threatening injuries.
Responding firefighters found high CO levels in the front lobby of the retail store.
All other Target employees were immediately evacuated from the store, and were relocated to a store front in the shopping complex as a result of the cold weather.
Additional crews were brought in to help ventilate the building.
