Davenport, IA—A Quad City Mallards player suffered serious injuries after crashing his pickup truck into a deck of a home on Monday, December 6, 2010. The automobile accident occurred around 4 a.m., at a home located at 1219 Tremont Street in Davenport, as reported by WHBF.
Police officials reported that 34-year-old Mallards player, Phillip Axtell, crashed his truck into the deck of the home and then crawled out from the truck and laid outside in the freezing cold for two hours, until the homeowner found him.
The homeowner says he “felt a thud outside but didn’t see anything and went back to bed,” said Captain David Struckman.
One of the homeowner’s kids saw the porch had collapsed and went out to look as they were getting ready for school.
“The homeowner found the pickup truck parked underneath the porch, it had crashed through it into the foundation of the house,” Struckman said.
Axtell was found on the snow-covered ground, next to the passenger side of the truck.
Axtell was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was then transferred to Iowa City, for treatment of serious, but non life-threatening injuries.
Authorities believe that alcohol may have played a role, but officials are still investigating.
