New York, NY—The Broadway musical, “Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark” has seemingly been cursed, as a third cast member has sustained an injury while on set. A star performer suffered a concussion during Sunday night’s, December 5, 2010 preview performance, when she was struck in the head while standing off stage, as reported by the Wall Street Journal.

Natalie Mendoza, who plays villainous Arachne, a mythological spider creature, was injured backstage when she was hit in the head with a weighted rope, leaving her with a concussion.

A spokesman for the production said, “The actress did not report her injury on Sunday night; otherwise it would have been included in the stage manager’s post-performance report. The seriousness of the accident was also not clear. She may have been hit by the equipment on the rope, as opposed to the rope itself, or that the rope may have been made by re-enforced materials. Ms. Mendoza, 30, is 5’6’’ tall with a slim, athletic build.”

But, this musical production is no stranger to accidents. Performer Kevin Aubin, who plays a “Spider-Man” stunt double, was injured before previews even began. Aubin reportedly broke both of his wrists in a flying maneuver, in which he landed incorrectly

Another performer also sustained an injury to his foot from what was called a repetitive-motion injury from a dance move.
