Baltimore, MD—Emergency medical personnel rushed a 6-year-old student to an area hospital after an altercation Thursday afternoon, Dec. 9, 2010 spurred him to jump out of a moving school bus, as reported by WBALTV. The injurious incident occurred after the bus left Villa Marie School in the 2300 block of Dulaney Valley Road and was en route to the child’s Baltimore city home.
According to Baltimore County police officials, a 6-year-old special-needs student became involved in a fight with another student while riding on a Baltimore City Schools bus after 3 p.m.
While an aide aboard the bus attempted to stop the kids from fighting, the unidentified student subsequently dashed to the back of the bus and jumped out of the emergency exit.
The student was subsequently rushed to Johns Hopkins Pediatrics to be treated by doctors and nurses. The extent of the child’s injuries and his/her condition were not immediately known.
The Baltimore City Schools district issued the following statement in connection with the incident:
“We extend out support to the family, students and school community whom this tragedy touches most closely. We are working with Baltimore County authorities to fully investigate the circumstances surrounding this accident. The student, who attends a non-public school in Baltimore County, was traveling on a bus operated by a company contracted by the City Schools to transport students.”
A full probe into the Baltimore accident was expected to be underway.
