Bay County, FL—A school bus rolled over and the driver of a dump truck was left suffering from back and neck pain after a collision Friday morning, Dec.10, 2010. The accident, in which speed was a factor, occurred in Southport at the intersection of County Road 388 and County Road 2301 (Blue Springs Road) around 6 a.m., as reported by the News Herald.
According to a Bay District Schools Transportation Department spokesperson, none of the people involved in the accident sustained life-threatening injuries.
EMS reports indicated a dump truck was traveling at speeds of approximately 60 mph when it failed to stop at a stop sign and T-boned a school bus.
The bus, which was occupied by the driver and one student, rolled onto its side as a result of the crash. They did not appear to suffer any injuries in the wreck.
The dump truck sustained “significant front end damage” in the collision. The unidentified driver, who was conscious after the accident, reportedly complained of neck and back pain. Reports did not specify whether the motorist was taken to a hospital after the wreck.
The Bay District Schools Transportation Department spokeswoman contended the bus was “turned around” on impact, and was lying “on its side” when emergency personnel arrived at the scene.
Officials from the Florida Highway Patrol are expected to investigate the crash. It was not clear if any citations were issued as of yet.
