Wallingford, CT—A suspected drunk driver caused a two-vehicle collision on Interstate 91, which left a Wallingford woman in critical condition and toddler wandering the accident scene. The drunk driving accident occurred just before 11:30 p.m., on Saturday, December 18, 2010, as reported by NBC Connecticut.
Police officials reported that Angel Alvarado, 30, of Wallingford, was driving a dump truck at about 20 mph in the far right lane of I-91. The dump truck suddenly veered into the center lane and into the path of a vehicle that former Superintendent of Schools Dale Wilson, 61, was operating.
The collision injured Wilson’s wife, Sharon Wilson, who was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital for treatment of a potential traumatic brain injury (TBI). She is currently in intensive care.
Dale Wilson sustained a broken arm in the wreck. Alvarado remained uninjured.
Alvarado’s 3-year-old son was not properly restrained in the truck, and was found wandering the accident scene, unsupervised and near traffic.
Police officers charged Alvarado with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, as well as making an unsafe lane change.
Investigations are underway.
