Eugene, OR—A nursing home worker pleaded not guilty to first degree sex abuse after the Eugene-based nursing home received word of an alleged incident involving one of the facility’s elderly female residents. According to a Jan. 3, 2011 KVAL 13 report, the suspected case of sexual abuse occurred at Valley West Health Care Center’s west Eugene nursing home on Dec. 22.

Officials from the Eugene Police Department arrested Robert Price, an employee with Valley West Health Care Center, before the holidays, in connection with the alleged sex abuse.

Court documents accused Price of having sexual contact with an unidentified woman who was unable to give consent since she is “mentally defective, mentally incapacitated and physically helpless.”

According to Valley West Executive Director Matt Preston, “Valley West Health Care Center is cooperating with the local police department in an investigation of an alleged attempted sexual assault of one of its female residents by a male associate.”

“Valley West Health Care Center performs a background check on every person that we hire to assure that our residents receive the best possible care,” Preston noted.

Though Price pleaded not guilty to first degree sex abuse, which is a Class B felony and Measure 11 crime punishable by a minimum prison sentence, he is expected in court on Jan. 27.

Police seem to believe the alleged sex abuse was an isolated incident.
