Bucyrus, OH—A University of Mount Union wrestling trainer was killed when the bus he was on collided with a snow plow on U.S. Route 30 Tuesday night, Jan. 10, 2011. The bus was transporting 28 people, many of whom were members of the school’s wrestling team, from Ohio Northern University back to Mount Union when the fatal traffic crash occurred, according to information provided by NewsNet5.com.
Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) reports indicated that an eastbound University of Mount Union bus was traveling along U.S. Route 30 when it attempted to pass a snow plow that was clearing the left lanes of the roadway. Upon doing so, the plow’s auxiliary blade slashed through the driver’s side of the bus.
Daniel M. Gorman, a 53-year-old Hartville man, was reportedly sitting in the seat that the blade tore into around 11 p.m. While emergency medical services (EMS) rushed Gorman to Bucyrus Community Hospital after the snow plow-bus collision, his injuries proved fatal at the medical center.
Four others, including 19-year-old Brad Kress, 26-year-old Shawn Dreger, 20-year-old Courtney Perrino and 28-year-old Mark Hawald, suffered minor injuries. They were transported to area hospitals, where they were treated and subsequently released.
ODOT released a statement after the motor vehicle wreck, stating, “The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) would like to express their deep sympathy to the families of the passenger killed in last evening’s crash.”
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is expected to conduct a full investigation into the deadly Bucyrus bus accident.
