Two Rivers, WI—Nesco/American Harvest, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, voluntarily recalled NESCO American Harvest Gardenmaster Food Dehydrators due to fire hazards they pose. The CPSC announced the product safety recall, which affects approximately 4,800 units, on Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011.

Though no injuries have been reported in connection with the defective NESCO American Harvest Gardenmaster Food Dehydrators, the company reportedly received three reports of overheating, which resulted in smoke and/or fire.

According to the CPSC news release, “The recalled product includes a base with stackable trays to place food. The top of the unit houses the electronic control module. Model number FD-1020 and production date codes: 09E 0610; 09E 0624; and 09E 0903 are molded into the underside of the dehydrator’s electronic control module.”

The recalled food dehydrators were sold at national mass merchandisers and retainers, as well as online at www.nesco.com and other websites between July 2009 and January 2011. The product cost about $140.

Consumers have been urged to cease use of the potentially hazardous food dehydrators and contact NESCO at (800) 726-4457 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT to find out how to obtain a complimentary electronic control module.

Additional information concerning the defective product recall can also be found on the company’s website.
