Westminster, MA—About 540 Simplex fire alarm control panels were recalled by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and the manufacturer, Tyco Safety Products for failure to alert monitoring centers in the event of a fire. The CPSC released the product recall on February 8, 2011.

The recall was initiated after discovering that the control panels can fail to send a signal to alert monitoring centers in the event of a fire.

“The recalled fire alarm panel is the Simplex 4100U-NXP panel configured for third party monitoring and running software revision 14.01. The words ‘Simplex,’ ‘4100U’ and ‘Fire Control’ appear on the fire alarm’s front panel. The software revision number can be identified by pressing the ‘Menu’ key on the panel keypad, selecting ‘Show Software Revision Level’ and pressing ‘Enter,’ according to the CPSC press release.

Building managers are advised to contact SimplexGrinnell for a free software upgrade. Customers are being contacted directly by SimplexGrinnell.
