Steubenville, OH– About 20,000 Freestanding Steel Outdoor Fireplaces in the United States and 400 fireplaces in Canada were voluntarily recalled for fire hazards by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Health Canada and Sunjoy Industries Group Limited. The CPSC announced the product recall on March 8, 2011.
The product recall was issued after discovering that the decoration bronze powder coat finish on the fireplace chimney can ignite during use, which poses a fire hazard to consumers.
“This recall involves ‘Garden Treasures Living’ steel outdoor fireplaces with a bronze finish chimney and slate colored accents. The wood burning fireplace is approximately 24 inches deep by 35 inches wide and 57 inches tall, has two glass doors and a tile back inside. Item number 0027705 and model number L-OF082PST-3 are printed on the front page of the product’s instruction manual. No other ‘Garden Treasures Living’ brand outdoor fireplaces are included in this recall,” reported the CPSC press release.
The outdoor fireplaces were sold exclusively at Lowes retail stores.
Consumers are advised to contact Sunjoy for a free replacement chimney and chimney cap.
