Galveston, TX — A two-vehicle collision involving a school bus and a prison bus caused eight students to be taken to the hospital on Wednesday, March 23, 2011. The bus accident occurred at 7:37 a.m., at the intersection of 51st Street and Broadway, reported KHOU.
According to officials, a school bus was transporting 16 students to the Alamo school campus when it collided with a Texas Department of Criminal Justice bus as the buses were turning at the intersection.
Responding emergency crews transported eight students who complained for head, neck and back pain to the University of Texas Medical Branch for treatment. The uninjured students were taken to Alamo school.
Several prison guards, Galveston Independent School District police officers, and four Galveston police officers were present as 14 inmates were transferred to a prison van.
Details surrounding the accident were not immediately available, but investigations into the bus accident are underway.
