Lynchburg, VA — A three-vehicle collision involving two school buses on Friday morning, March 25, 2011, sent two drivers to the hospital. The automobile accident occurred around 8:15 a.m., at the intersection of Timberlake Road and Greenview Drive, reported WSLS.
According to officials, a small Campbell County school bus was making a left turn on a green light from Timberlake onto Greenview, when the bus failed to yield to eastbound oncoming traffic, which also had a green traffic light at the time.
The school bus, which was driven by 68-year-old Brenda Dowdy of Forest, consequently hit a blue Toyota Camry which was traveling on Timberlake Road through the Greenview intersection.
The impact of the collision propelled the Campbell County bus into a full-sized Lynchburg City Schools bus, which was waiting on Greenview to make a right turn onto Timberlake.
Police reported that there was five students on the Lynchburg bus at the time, but no one was injured in the collision. Only the driver and an aide were aboard the Campbell County bus.
Responding emergency crews rushed the drivers of the Toyota and Campbell County Bus to an area hospital as a precaution. None of their injuries appeared serious, reported officers.
Authorities cited Dowdy with failure to yield the right of way.
