Fort Madison, IA — An accident at Pinnacle Foods has resulted in the death of a 30-year-old Keokuk man, when he became trapped in a piece of machinery. The fatal workplace accident occurred Saturday morning, March 26, 2011 at around 5:27 a.m., at the plant near Fort Madison, reported the Keokuk Daily Gate.
According to Fort Madison police officials, Brian Stice was cleaning an auger when get got caught in the machinery.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene and worked for several hours to get Stice out of the machine. Stice was killed in the industrial accident.
The Fort Madison fire and police departments, Lee County Sheriff’s Office and Lee County Ambulance all responded to the emergency call.
Stice has reportedly been an employee at Pinnacle Foods since September 2007.
Pinnacle Foods spokesperson Elizabeth Rowland issued the following statement to the Daily Gate via e-mail at 5:55 p.m. Saturday: “We are aware of the situation and are currently working with authorities to investigate. We have no further information for release at this time.”
Investigations are underway. Officials from the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are expected to arrive at the scene to conduct an investigation of its own.
