Pitt County, NC — A 6-year-old girl, who was on her way to a wedding in which she was participating as the flower girl, was killed in a head-on collision on Highway 43 near Rock Springs. The fatal car accident occurred around 4:50 p.m., Saturday, April 9, 2011 on Highway 43 between Greenville and Falkland, reported WNCT.
According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, a 1994 Jeep Cherokee was traveling northbound on the highway when it crossed the center line and slammed head-on into a 2009 Honda Accord.
Three people were inside of the Honda, who were identified as Michele Garland, 22; Lindsey Whitehurst, 13; and Ava Kendall, 6.
The people in the Honda were reportedly on their way to a wedding when the accident occurred. Kendall, who was supposed to be the flower girl in the wedding, was killed in the crash.
Garland and Whitehurst were rushed by responding emergency crews to the hospital for treatment of injuries. Their injuries are reportedly not considered to be life threatening.
The driver of the Jeep, Mupin Wu Cummings, 39, of Pinetops was also taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
The NC Highway Patrol is investigating the wreck.
