McComb, MS — A small plane crash in McComb killed three people on Sunday, April 10, 2011. The plane crashed at around 4:37 a.m., into some trees near Caston Road in a rural area on the western edge of McComb, reported the Clarion Ledger.
Officials have identified the deceased as Dr. Taylor Pickett, 52; his wife, Laura Pickett, 22, of Summit; and her sister, Jacquelyn Ham, 29, of Meadville. They were all pronounced dead at the scene from burns and trauma.
The plane reportedly left New Orleans at 4:07 a.m. and was en route to McComb when the plane went down in a thickly wooded area.
Dr. Pickett was an experienced pilot and was flying the plane at the time of the accident.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is working with Cessna and Continental Motors, the maker of the plane’s engine, to determine the cause of the crash.
Dr. Pickettt, a cardiologist and thoracic surgeon, worked for McComb’s Mississippi Cardiovascular Institute
Investigations are underway.
