Monterey, CA — Two Nevada teenagers were found dead after they went missing from their diving group in the Monterey Bay. The fatal scuba diving accident was reported on Saturday, April 9, 2011, when the teens failed to surface and return to the charter boat at around 12:25 p.m., according to information from the Monterey Herald.

Stephen Anderson, 16, and Keegan Aiazzi, 17, both of Carson City, Nev., never returned to their charter boat, the Monterey Express, after diving about about 1,000 to 1,500 feet offshore between the Monterey Bay Aquarium and the InterContinental The Clement Monterey, a hotel on Cannery Row.

A search team was launched and after about 45 minutes of searching, the teens were found on the bottom of the ocean. “They were brought up in cardiac arrest. We did CPR all the way to the hospital,” stated Felix Colello, a division chief for the Monterey Fire Department.

The teens were pronounced dead at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula.

It is unknown how deep the divers were when they got into trouble. Estimates ranged from 40 to 80 feet.

The Monterey police are collecting evidence and are interviewing those involved. They will then hand over their findings to the Coroner’s Unit of the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office to determine a cause of death.
