New York City – Brooklyn Injury Attorney reports: Three people were killed and seven others suffered injuries Monday, March 28, 2011, after a fire broke out in a four-story building in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn, as reported by CBS New York. According to reports received by the Brooklyn Injury Attorney, the fire occurred at approximately 6 p.m. on the upper two floors of the building at 1150 Putnam Avenue, near Bushwick Avenue.

Brooklyn Injury Attorney JC Reiter also states that, according to authorities, a 3-year-old girl, 14-year-old girl and 62-year-old man died in the fire. Nearly 60 firefighters responded to the blaze. Two of the responders were injured during the near hour-long effort to extinguish the blaze, as reported by Brooklyn Injury Attorney JC Reiter. Authorities remained unclear whether premise liability played a role in the injuries.

A witness, who lives across the street from the building which caught fire, reported to CBS New York that her son said he saw children playing with matches inside the building, as stated by the Brooklyn Injury Attorney.

Some individuals were seen jumping from windows to escape the fire, according to reports received by Brooklyn Injury Attorney JC Reiter.

While the fire remains suspicious, and the issue of premise liability is still unclear, police are investigating all leads, including neighbor reports of children playing with matches and premise liability issues, according to Brooklyn Injury Attorney JC Reiter.

Brooklyn Injury Attorney also reports that there were no statements on whether the building had working fire alarms, which would indicate premise liability.

Brooklyn Injury Attorney JC Reiter states that the New York Post reported in January 2011 that fire fatalities for 2011 reached an all-time low. According to Fire Commissioner Sal Cassano, 60 people died in fires in 2010, which is 13 deaths lower than 2009’s 73 fire-related deaths. Brooklyn Injury Attorney JC Reiter states that Mayor Bloomberg attributed the lower casualty number to “good management,” “good equipment” and “a bunch of dedicated people.”

Brooklyn Injury Attorney JC Reiter explains that wrongful death and serious personal injury related to premise liability cases require knowledge, skill, experience and dedication.
