Los Angeles, CA — A salmonella contamination threat has prompted the recall of grape tomatoes by Taylor Farms Pacific, Inc., a California-based food supplier for six retail chain stores in 13 states, reported CNN.
Taylor Farms Pacific stated the recall included 29 brand-package salads sold at Albertson’s, Raley’s, Sam’s Club, Savemart, Signature Cafe and Wal-Mart. The recalled tomatoes can be found at the retail stores named above in 13 states including Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
The affected tomatoes have expiration dates ranging from April 27 through May 9.
Taylor Farms is advising consumers to not eat the recalled tomatoes and return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
Salmonella can “cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain,” according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Consumers with questions should call Taylor Farms at 209-835-6300 or contact the U.S. Food and Drug Administration or the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
