Washington, D.C. — Wooden bunk beds by Dorel Asia SRL were voluntarily recalled by the manufacturer and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) for fall hazards. The CPSC announced the product recall on May 5, 2011.
The product recall was issued after discovering that the wooden rails that run from the headboard to the footboard, holding the bunk bed’s mattress in place, can split causing the bed to collapse. This poses a fall hazard to consumers.
The model number, date of manufacture, “Made in Vietnam” and the firm’s phone number are printed on a white label located on one of the bunk bed rails. Some of the labels include the name ‘Dorel Asia SRL,’” reported the CPSC press release. The models, colors and manufacturing date ranges included in this recall, can be found at: http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml11/11214.html.
Consumers are advised to contact Dorel Asia for a free repair kit. Until the repair kit arrives, consumers should disassemble the bunk bed and use them as separate twin beds.
For more information concerning the product recall, consumers should contact Dorel Asia at (800) 295-1980 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or visit their website at www.dorelasia.com.
