Davidson County, NC School Bus Rollover Injured 31 Students

Davidson County, NC — Thirty-one students were injured when a school bus rolled Tuesday morning, May 24, 2011. The school bus was transporting 38 students when the crash occurred near the intersection of Norman Shoaf Road and Tom Livengood Road, reported My Fox 8.

According to police officials, the school bus and a truck hauling a trailer were both headed north on Norman Shoaf Road, when the a rear tire of the trailer crossed left of the centerline and hit the bus. The impact caused the school bus driver to lose control and cross left of the centerline. The bus driver overcorrected the bus, causing it to overturn.

Responding emergency crews rushed nine students to Lexington Memorial Hospital, eight to Thomasville Medical Center, six to Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, and eight to Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem for treatment of injuries.

The injuries sustained by the students were described as minor, consisting of bumps and scrapes, according to officials.

The uninjured students were picked up by their parents at the scene of the crash.

The bus driver reportedly appeared to be “okay.”

Charges are pending against the driver of the truck. Investigations are underway.
