Bentonville, AR — About 255,000 General Electric® Food Processors were voluntarily recalled by Walmart and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) for fire and laceration hazards. The CPSC announced the product recall May 25, 2011.
The product recall was issued after discovering that the safety interlock system on the food processor can fail, allowing the operation without the lid secured. This poses a laceration hazard to consumers. In addition, the food processor can emit smoke, or catch fire, which poses a fire hazard.
Twenty-one people have sustained fingertip injuries as a result of the defective product. Three reports of fires have also been received by Walmart.
“This recall involves GE-branded digital, 14-cup food processors. The food processors are black with stainless steel trim, and model number 169203 is imprinted on the underside of the unit,” reported the CPSC press release.
Consumers are advised to return the food processor to any Walmart location for a full refund.
