Mahwah, NJ — The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Janome America have voluntarily recalled sewing machines for fire risks the product poses. The CPSC announced the nationwide product recall on June 1, 2011.

The product recall was issued after it was discovered that the sewing machine wiring can short circuit, which poses a fire hazard to consumers.

“This recall involves the Elna eXcellence 740 sewing machine. The machine is white and navy with a digital touch panel. ‘Elna’ and ‘eXcellence 740’ are printed on the front of the machine,” the CPSC reported.

Consumers have been instructed to stop using the sewing machine and return it to the place of purchase for a free repair.

For more information concerning the product recall, consumers can contact Janome American at (800) 631-0183 anytime or visit their website at www.elnausa.com.
