North Carolina Workplace Accident: Lowe’s Worker Killed at South Charlotte Store

Charlotte, NC — A Lowes home improvement store employee was fatally injured in an accident at a south Charlotte location Sunday morning, June 12, 2011. The fatal workplace accident occurred around 10:30 a.m., at the Lowe’s store location at 217 Iverson Way in the city’s South End area, reported WBTV.

According to police officials, the workplace accident occurred in a warehouse located adjacent to the store in which customers visit. Customers are not allowed in the warehouse where the accident took place.

The Lowe’s employee was identified as 35-year-old Richard Thomas Yoost of Rock Hill, SC.

Reports indicated that Yoost was underneath the garage door when it fell and struck him in the head for unknown reasons.

Responding emergency crews rushed Yoost to Carolina Medical Center where attending doctors pronounced him dead at 10:53 a.m.

Investigations into the fatal workplace accident are underway. It is unknown at this time what caused the garage door to fall.

OSHA is expected to investigate the fatal Lowe’s workplace accident.
