Brandon, FL — A pickup truck hit and killed a 19-year-old construction worker who was working along Interstate 75 Tuesday morning, June 14, 2011. The fatal truck crash occurred around 4:30 a.m. on the shoulder of the interstate, just north of State Road 60, reported TBO.com.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), Robert P. Armstrong Jr., of Valrico was working as a part of a crew from Pepper Construction that was retrieving traffic-control devices along the shoulder of I-75.

A Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Logan Feagle, 21, of Land O’ Lakes, apparently lost control of his truck and veered into the shoulder. The pickup truck hit a 2002 Ford utility truck and message-boarder trailer that part of the construction crew was riding in. The pickup truck also struck Armstrong, who was outside of the crew’s truck at the time.

Responding emergency crews pronounced Armstrong dead at the scene.

Feagle sustained minor injuries and was not transported to a hospital for treatment.

The FHP is investigating the fatal truck crash.
