Saginaw, MI — A plane crash survivor met his fate in another plane crash near Charlevoix on Friday, June 24, 2011. Pilot Dr. Stephen Hatch was previously involved in a plane crash eight years ago that was similar to the crash Hatch was killed in last week, which killed his wife, son and daughter in 2003, reported ConnectMidMichigan.com.

According to federal aviation officials, Hatch and his family were flying home to Indiana in 2003, when the plane went down while Hatch was trying to land in Fort Wayne and hit a power pole. Hatch and his son, Austin, were the only ones to survive the plane crash.

Hatch was flying roughly the same route as the first plane crash he was involved in, when the second aviation accident occurred. Hatch’s single-engine plane crashed into a house near Charlevoix, killing himself and his second wife, Kim.

Hatch’s son Austin Hatch, who was also on the plane, was critically injured in the crash. He is currently in a drug-induced coma at Munson Medical Center near Traverse City.

7&4 News reported that the family’s two dogs were also on the plane at the time of the crash. One pet was killed on impact, and the other dog was found blocks from the crash scene—alive.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) say it is unknown what caused the plane to fall from the sky, but the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is looking into whether the crash was an accident or an incident. More details will be released at a later date.

In the 2003 plane crash, FAA investigators determined that Hatch was partially responsible for the deaths of his family members.

Investigations into the deadly plane crash are underway.
