Pittsburgh, PA — General Nutrition Corporation (GNC) and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) have announced a voluntary product recall of GNC Women’s Ultra Mega®, Ultra Mega Active, Ultra Mega Energy and Metabolism, and GNC Prenatal Formula with Iron multivitamins. The CPSC announced the product recall on June 30, 2011.

The nationwide product recall was issued after discovering that the products contain iron, but does not have child-resistant packaging, which is required by federal law. If a child ingests the vitamins, it could cause serious injury or death.

“This recall only involves the following four products with the noted lot numbers: GNC Women’s Ultra Mega 28-count multivitamin bottles with lot numbers 0432AL1781 and 1283CL1781, GNC Women’s Ultra Mega Active 180-count multivitamin bottles with lot numbers 1029BL1783 and 1030BL1783, GNC Women’s Ultra Mega Energy and Metabolism 90-count multivitamin bottles with lot number 1450CL1789 and GNC Prenatal Formula with Iron 120-count multivitamin bottles with lot number 0785BL2863. The lot numbers are printed on the side of the bottle and on the bottom of the product’s packaging. The affected lots are packaged in a white plastic bottle with a white label and a flip-top cap,” reported the CPSC.

Consumers have been advised to keep the vitamins out of the reach of children and return the recalled products to the GNC store where the product was purchased to be exchanged for a replacement bottle or refund.

For more information concerning the product recall, consumers can contact GNC toll-free at (888) 462-2548 anytime, or visit www.gnc.com.
