Margate, FL — A two-vehicle collision injured 25 passengers of a Broward Transit bus on Tuesday, July 5, 2011, when an empty fuel tank rear-ended the bus shortly before 9 a.m. in the northbound lanes of State Road 7, just north of Margate Boulevard, reported the Sun-Sentinel.
While police say it isn’t immediately known what caused the tanker to crash into the bus, it is likely the number of injuries resulting from the crash was due to the lack of seatbelts on the bus.
Responding emergency crews transported 22 injured people to area hospitals, while three others were treated at the scene of the bus accident. One person who was taken to the North Broward Medical Center reportedly appeared to have suffered serious injuries.
Neither the bus driver nor the driver of the tanker was injured in the crash.
Police are looking into what may have caused the rear-end collision. Investigations are underway.
