Arlington, TX — A Texas Rangers fan fell to his death while trying to catch a ball during Thursday night’s game, July 7, 2011. The fan fell 20 feet into an area near the scoreboard as his son watched in horror during the second inning, reported CNN.com.

According to the Arlington Fire Department, the unidentified man and his son were watching the Texas Rangers game at the Rangers Ballpark when outfielder Josh Hamilton threw a ball into the stands for the fans.

The victim, who was leaning over the railing of the outfield seats, fell about 20 feet head-first near the scoreboard. The victim’s son, who was with the victim, witnessed the whole accident.

Responding emergency crews rushed him to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Another fan saw the victim leaning over the railing and tried to grab his shirt, but he could not hold on.

“Just as the ball hit his hands, it kind of threw him off balance and he went head-first,” a fan said to WFAA reporters. “It looked awful because you knew there was no way he was going to land on his feet “

This isn’t the first time a fan tumbled over the railing of the Rangers Ballpark, Tyler Morris, survived the 30-foot fall but fractured his skull and injured his foot and ankle after falling from the second deck.
