Worker Crushed by Concrete Barrier at New Jersey Turnpike Construction Site

Bordentown, NJ — A construction worker was crushed by a several-thousand pound concrete barrier, leaving him dead at a construction site on the New Jersey Turnpike. The fatal construction accident occurred on Monday, July 11, 2011, at 7:56 a.m., in Bordentown near exit 7, as reported by NJ.com.

According to police officers, Carmen DiLuzio, 51, of Wilmington, Delaware backed a flatbed truck next to a crane that was about to unload the barriers. When DiLuzio began to unlatch the straps and binders used to tie the barriers to the trailer, one of the barriers fell off the tractor-trailer and crushed him to death.

Responding emergency crews rushed to the construction accident where they pronounced him dead at 8:19 a.m.

New Jersey State Police and the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are investigating the fatal construction accident.
