Fort Drum, NY — A chain-reaction crash involving four military transport vehicles seriously injured two Fort Drum soldiers and sent 25 others to area hospitals. The automobile accident occurred on a training range—Range 31—on Sunday, July 17, 2011 around noon on the Army Base, reported Syracuse.com.
According to officials, the crash occurred after one of the military transport vehicles stopped suddenly, which sparked the chain-reaction crash.
The military transport vehicles involved in the crash are reportedly “medium-sized tactical vehicles,” which are used to move soldiers.
Responding emergency crews transported 27 soldiers to hospitals in Gouverneur, Carthage and Watertown for treatment of injuries.
The soldiers involved in the chain-reaction crash were from the 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division.
Investigations into the cause of the crash are underway.
