Wichita, KS — Four men were rushed to the hospital following a fiery tractor-trailer and SUV crash on the Kansas Turnpike early Tuesday, July 19, 2011. The SUV crash occurred at mile marker 54 1/2 just north of the east Wichita exit on the Turnpike just after 1:00 a.m., reported NTV.

The Highway Patrol reported that an SUV was hauling a trailer with another SUV on it when a trailer tire blew out, which caused the SUV to slow down. A tractor-trailer driver reportedly didn’t realize how slow the SUV was actually traveling, and rear-ended the trailer.

The collision caused the fuel tank on the tractor-trailer to rupture and cause a fire, which was so intense that it could be seen from a mile away.

The four men inside the SUV were burned in the collision and subsequent fire. Police reported that two of the victims were critically burned, while the two other victims suffered serious burns.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured in the crash.

The Highway Patrol is conducting a full investigation into the fiery SUV crash.
