Merrimac, WI — Over 20 people were injured, some seriously, while competing in the Tough Mudder series, which is dubbed the “toughest event on the planet.” The series first competition was held in Wisconsin over the weekend, which proved not only to be tough, but also very dangerous, reported WKOW.

The obstacle course left over 20 people were injuries, which included one person sustaining a broken neck and another sustaining a broken femur.

Sauk Prairie Ambulance took a majority of the injured participants to Sauk Prairie Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Some sustained more serious injuries and were airlifted via helicopter to UW Hospital.

Saturday proved to be the biggest day for the Tough Mudder event, with 7,500 participants and about 5,000 spectators.

“Tough Mudder is not your average lame-ass mud run or spirit-crushing ‘endurance’ road race. Our 10-12 mile obstacle courses are designed by British Special Forces to test all around strength, stamina, mental grit, and camaraderie,” according to the Tough Mudder website.
