Anne Arundel County, MD — A construction accident at the site of the Arundel Mills slots parlor injured one worker and killed another, after a concrete wall collapsed onto the men on Friday, July 29, 2011. The fatal construction accident took place just before 10 a.m., on the mall grounds in the 7000 block of Arundel Mills Circle in Hanover, reported the Baltimore Sun.

According to police officers, a wall made of 25 tons of precast concrete that measured about 30-feet-tall and 40-feet-wide, suddenly collapsed onto two workers, identified as Leon Ray Sax, 27, of Hanover, Pa. and Darbin Suazo-Jimenez, 25, of Manassas, Va.

Sax, who was standing inside a bucket lift of a mechanical arm when the wall collapsed, was killed in the construction accident. Sax was reportedly trapped in the accident.

Suazo-Jimenez was rushed to Maryland Shock Trauma for treatment of life-threatening injuries. His condition has since been upgraded from “critical” to “fair.”

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will be investigating the fatal construction accident.

Investigations are underway.
