Daytona Beach, FL — A Kansas woman is recovering after being run over by a Beach Patrol pickup truck while sunbathing on the beach. The accident occurred just after 10 a.m. Sunday, July 31, 201, in Central Florida, reported Fox News.

The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reported that 33-year-old Erin Michelle Joynt of Wichita, Kan., was laying on the beach when the right wheel of the truck ran over her head and upper body. The truck was reportedly making a U-turn when he struck the beachgoer.

Joynt was rushed to a Daytona Hospital where she is reportedly listed in stable condition.

Joynt’s husband was with her at the time, but was not injured.

The lifeguard who was driving the truck, 21-year-old Thomas Moderie, said he just didn’t see the woman. Moderie is a seasonal, part-time employee who has a “spotless record,” USA Today reported.

Daytona Beach officials are now considering removing big patrol trucks from the beach.

This accident marks the third incident involving a beach patrol vehicle and a sunbather in about a year.

Investigations are underway.
