Horse Trainer Suffers Fatal Traumatic Brain Injury at Portland Meadows

Portland, OR — A horse trainer working at Portland Meadows is dead after being kicked in the head by a horse she was working with. The fatal work-related accident occurred around 7:15 a.m., on Thursday, August 11, 2011, reported KPTV.

According to officials, Charlynn Taketa, who was in her 40s, sustained severe head trauma when she was kicked outside the horse stables near a washing area.

Responding Portland firefighters tried to revive the injured woman, but their efforts proved unsuccessful and she was pronounced dead.

Taketa’s husband, Jerry Taketa said some horses had gotten loose from a walker and trainers were trying to retrieve them. Charlynn was standing with a horse when of the loose horses kicker her, report KGW.

Jerry, who is also a horse trainer, was present when the fatal accident occurred.

Investigations into the work-related accident are underway.
