Norfolk, VA — A collision involving a light rail train and a van injured the driver of the vehicle on Tuesday, August 16, 2011. The train accident occurred at the intersection of Brambleton Avenue and 2nd Street at around 5:10 p.m., reported WAVY.com.
Police officers reported that a 1992 Ford van was traveling southbound on Second Street, and was trying to make a right turn onto Brambleton Avenue when the vehicle hit the westbound light rail train.
Police identified the driver of the van as 70-year-old Haywood Waller.
Responding emergency crews rushed Waller to an area hospital after complaining of pain. Waller did not show any visible injuries.
The driver of the train was uninjured, and there were no passengers on board of the light rail train at the time of the collision.
Police cited Waller for disregarding a traffic direction signal.
